Down on the Farm
Ice Cream at Frost CafeCulpeper's rolling hills are home to many different kinds of farms. As you drive into the country, you'll see all sorts of animals grazing, including cows, horses, sheep and even bison! Some of Culpeper's farms are happy to have visitors. In fact, you can tour more than a dozen Culpeper farms the first weekend of October every year during the Culpeper Harvest Days Farm Tour.

Visit some of Culpeper's greenhouses and nurseries and pick up some flowers, fruits, or veggies to plant on a farm of your own when you get back home. Every farmer needs the proper tools, so stop in Clarke Hardware, a Davis Street tradition for over 100 years! While you're there, pick up a shiny red Radio Flyer wagon to haul your harvest.

Can't wait for your own vegetables to grow? Visit the Farmer's Market in Downtown Culpeper. The Farmer's Market is open Saturday mornings from April through October.

A Step Back in Time
At the Visitors Center, pick up a copy of the Civil War Culpeper: A Driving Tour map to begin your tour. The Depot is the site where George Custer's horse was shot out from under him as he rode down Davis Street. Radio Flyer Wagons at Clarke HardwareClose your eyes and travel back in time. Imagine a train loaded with supplies backing out of town to escape Union forces who were trying to capture it September 13th, 1863 during the Battle of Culpeper Courthouse. Check out the Civil War Trails markers by the train tracks, and then head to the Museum of Culpeper History.

At the Museum, you will learn all about Culpeper during the Civil War. While you're there, check out the other cool stuff like dinosaur tracks and arrowheads. You can also go inside the Town's oldest house, the Burgandine house, located right next door. Then pull out your Civil War Driving Tour map, and head out of town to Culpeper's Civil War battlefields. You've got three to visit and tour: Kelly's Ford, Brandy Station, and Cedar Mountain. Attention, soldier! Now march!

An Action-Packed Day!
Warning to grown-ups: rest up and eat a hearty breakfast! Spend the morning at Yowell Meadow Park located in the heart of downtown. There's a pavilion, walking trail, two playground areas with equipment, volleyball, basketball, tennis courts and lots of room to spread out and have fun. Skate boarding in Yowell Meadow ParkOne of the highlights of the park for teens is the skateboard ramp - don't forget your helmut! When your appetite returns, grab lunch at one of Culpeper's delicious eateries. Eat in, or take a picnic out to Mountain Run Lake Park. There are several play areas, and you may even spy ducks, rabbits, squirrels and even an occasional bald eagle! Plan for an afternoon hike. Culpeper is the perfect base to enjoy Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive. With over 500 miles of hiking trails, including over 100 miles on the Appalachian Trail, you'll enjoy the best that nature has to offer, just a short drive from Culpeper. Don't forget your camera!

After all of this outdoor activity, you might be ready for a rest. Head back to town and catch a movie. The R/C Culpeper Movies on Main Street feature four theatres with stadium seating and show all the latest flicks.

Now isn't it fun to be a kid?!
