was a thing of the past, think again! For a unique Culpeper experience, be sure and visit Virginia's only legal moonshine still at Belmont Farm Distillery, "Home of Virginia Lightning". Here, corn is grown, harvested, stored, ground, and prepared for fermentation into Virginia moonshine and corn whiskey. The Miller family, recalling that a grandfather had produced whiskey during the 1920's, began producing it legally after reconstructing the family recipe. In 1989, they produced their first product, Virginia Lightning Corn Whiskey, otherwise fondly known as moonshine or 'shine. The family has dedicated themselves to the continuation of pot still whiskey, and recently created a new type of Virginian whiskey, called Kopper Kettle. Though tastings are prohibited by law, Virginia Lightning and Copper Fox may be purchased at ABC stores throughout Virginia. A stop at Belmont Farm Distillery is a must on your Culpeper tour itinerary! |
