Bluemont Summer Concerts: Bill Emerson & Sweet Dixie :

Description: Enjoy the sounds of summer at the Bluemont Summer Concerts on the Courthouse lawn. $5 per person, $4 Bluemont Friends & Seniors, $2 kids under 12. There are no advance ticket sales; tickets available at concert. In case of bad weather: concerts are held at the Culpeper Train Depot, 109 Commerce Street, Culpeper VA, 22701 We prefer to hold Bluemont concerts outside if possible. Summer weather can change quickly and is sometimes hard to predict. Always go to the outdoor concert site first; if the concert has moved, proceed to the nearby indoor site. Decision to move indoors will be posted at site and broadcast over local radio stations.

Located along the Atlantic coastal plain of southern South Carolina, the low country combines its influence from Africa along with the wealth of seafood, spices, vegetables, livestock and rice, to create a cuisine found nowhere else in the world! Menu: (Passed) Fried Green tomatoes with remoulade sauce, Chicken liver pate on toast points. Dinner: "There's got to be Cornbread!" "Local" low country shrimp and stone ground grits. Good 'ole chicken and okra gumbo. Grilled pork tenderloin with hoppin' John (black eyed peas and rice), collard greens, and pan gravy. Traditional all American strawberry shortcake. Join us for our final concert of the season with The Worx, voted best local band for 2007 in Harrisonburg, Va., and for 2008 in Lynchburg, Va. The Worx, a unique combination of five talented and versatile musicians, consistently please a wide range of audiences with their enormous musical repertoire. The Worx perform modern and classic rock-n-roll covers as well as original material with such energetic enthusiasm that everyone will be on their feet for this final exciting show of the concert series. The Great Dahlia Festival at Wollam Gardens:

Description: Wollam Gardens, an eleven acre cut-flower farm in Virginia's beautiful horse country, is hosting a dahlia extravaganza! In order to share its 10,000 dahlia plants, the farm is inviting its market customers and neighbors to a family-friendly festival during the last two weekends of August: August 21, 22, and 28, 29 from 10 am- 4pm each day. Admission is FREE. The festival will offer great activities for families! Kids will enjoy hayrides around the farm, feeding the chickens, and creating beautiful crafts. Guests can cut their own flowers, buy handmade bouquets, and get tours of the property and gardening advice from owner Bob Wollam. Enjoy floral arranging tips from neighboring floral design company and festival co-host Like Water for Tulips. Delicious food from local baker Karen Wollam will be available for picnics on the beautiful grounds. The festival will also feature an artisan's market with area talents selling jewelry, cards, baby gifts, blown glass, and Wollam Gardens tees. There will even be glass-blowing demonstrations from an area artist.
